Hello! I'm Angela, owner of
Fashion It Sewing!
Custom Historic Clothing, Christian Dance Apparel, &
Sewing/Fashion Design Classes for girls.
I have been sewing for 19
years and studying 19th century clothing construction for 11 years. Since
2004 I have been teaching sewing and historic costuming.
My mom was my first sewing teacher, she was also the first to help
me de-code the historical clothing patterns I found in dusty library
books!
By my late teens my mom had taught me all she knew about sewing, so I began taking
classes from excellent instructors at Fabrications
in Kennett Square, PA, Hayes Sewing Machine Co. in Wilmington, DE,
Steve's Sew & Vac in King of Prussia, PA, and Moore College of Art &
Design in Philadelphia, PA.
Between 2002-2007, my historic clothing and accessory
knowledge/skills
benefited from excellent teachers online at The Costume Classroom.com: Juanita
Leisch, MarnaJean Davis, Jennie Chancey, Penny Ladnier, Elizabeth Stewart Clark.
Carolann Schmitt proprietor of Genteel Arts Academy and Dr. Karin
Bohleke director of the Shippensburg University Fashion Archives and Museum
have expanded my knowledge of Civil War era and 19thC. through early
20thC. clothing since 2006.
From 1997-2009
I was part of the Good Samaritan Dance Academy at The
Church of the Good Samaritan. It was there that I
learned about the importance of both modest and
beautiful clothing for Christian dancers! Much of
my dance apparel work over the past 5 years has been for
the "Dance Choir" at The Church of the Good Samaritan.
Theater is
another avenue for my sewing, and since 2006 I have
volunteered or worked with STARS, Brandywiners, Inc,
Media Theater, and had the privilege of doing a two
month Costume Apprenticeship at the Walnut St. Theatre
in Philadelphia, PA.
I believe there will always be something new to learn in the field of
sewing and costuming and continue take as many classes as possible every
year!
I hope you
will join me in the exciting journey of creative sewing,
costuming and dancing!
